CHAPTER 11

They left me alone after that, and I didn’t know how much time had passed, if anybody had called my guys or who would know about it by now. I chewed the edge of my thumbnail and desperately longed for my phone. This sort of purgatory was mentally draining and almost worse than being interrogated.

Then again, that was probably the point. Sandy wanted me to get so bored or alone with my guilt that my emotions would turn on me, and I’d confess just to end this torture.

I half wished I was guilty so I could put an end to everything.

Finally, I got tired of waiting and yelled out, “Don’t I get a phone call or something?”

Silence answered me, although I could sense that somebody was listening, somebody was watching.

“Hello?” I yelled. “Somebody had better answer me, or I will have to talk to my father. If you know Ivan, then you know he’s not going to be happy about all this.”

I hadn’t spoken to Ivan in a month. He was in Asia on a business trip, or more like a tour. He was trying to set up a trade network of technology companies where each one would work on a node of green tech and contribute to the communal pot in the end.

It was a way to decentralize a think tank, drum up investors, and ultimately make the planet a cleaner, better place.

Ivan was no bad guy. Despite his wealth, he was just a man with a vision that stepped on a lot of big business and dirty money types around the world. He couldn’t help who he pissed off, he’d always say. He could only control who he pissed on.

I know, what a stupid dad joke, but it was effective in outlining how little control he had over people in the end.

I stood up and paced around the room, the energy inside of me needing somewhere to go. Without my Kings, I didn’t know what to do with myself. Normally when I felt like this, I would find one or all of them and ease my tension with a few hot and heavy orgasms.

Now I was trapped. I couldn’t exactly do anything like that in here.

At long last, the door opened, and Sandy reappeared with Pellet by her side. He was glaring at me with a nasty look on his face, and his aggressive, dark energy set me on edge. I ignored him and pretended he wasn’t there. I addressed Sandy and said, “I want to make a phone call.”

“You don’t need to. You’re all lawyered up,” she replied and raised her brow. “That was fast. It’s almost like having Daddy’s money and connections will help get you off Scott free and allow you to literally get away with murder.”

“I didn’t kill Seymour,” I said with a sigh. “Could you please let me see my lawyer so I can get the hell out of here?”

“Interesting that she mentioned Dr. Seymour in particular, isn’t it?” Sandy said to Pellet.
